I am currently completing my second degree, a BSc in Computer Science at the University of Manitoba. I completed my first degree, a general science BSc with a focus in Chemistry and Microbiology in 2005. Since that time I have been involved in health research and this remains a passion of mine. I am also interested in privacy of health information and other personal data when it comes to research. I believe the laws governing privacy have not been able to keep up with the advancement of technology and I am particularly interested in how this affects health research.
Aside from health research I am also interested in gender equality, especially in the technology field. The gender divide in technology has grown significantly in the past 20 years and I am interested in helping restore balance in the field. In the pursuit of this, I have acted as a mentor for the Winnipeg chapter of Ladies Learning Code, a "Canada-wide not-for-profit group working to empower everyone to feel comfortable learning beginner-friendly technical skills in a social, collaborative way".
One of my favourite past-times is photography. I enjoy photographing landscapes and nature. You can see some of the photos from my recent trip to the Azores, Portugal here. I also love photography equipment and technology. I currently shoot with a Nikon D7000.
